Omnia railway cantilever for electric traction

The new Omnia cantilever is an innovative product in the field of electric traction. It is the result of a cooperative effort by Bonciani S.p.A., Satferr S.r.l. and Bonomi S.p.A.. This revolutionary cantilever has the ability to satisfy all types of needs and applications in electric traction installations.

OBJECTIVES:

• to use this new cantilever on all types of catenaries; the features of the Omnia cantilever enable it to substitute the cantilevers on traditional lines and special cantilevers on high speed lines.
• to reduce the cost of installation and maintenance of the catenary.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

To achieve these goals the traditional suspension system has been completely rethought in order to make it practical in the new conditions.
Using their knowledge of the materials used, the thorough understanding of how suspensions work and deep knowledge of installation problems, functional aspects, geometry and adjustments, the research team concentrated on the development of a new type of suspension capable of satisfying the new demands arising from specific basic conditions and reducing the costs substantially for the operator of the line.
